Anybody know much about diesel fuel systems. i just bought a Ford F 250 diesel 6.9 with a Baker Trubo. When the truck sits overnight it is hard to start. Once it is goin it will start right off all day. when i try to start it after sitting I turn on ignition and wait for "wait to start" light to go out. (it has glow plugs). Then i depress to accelerrator pedal 1/2 way as in manual and turn the engine over. the engine fires of and runs a few seconds and stalls. The i have to crank on it 2 or three times with accel depressed before it starts and runs. Fuel solernoid? Air in iinjector pump?? Fix ??? Follow Ups: |

| My 86 did that, replaced th orings in the poppet valve on the water separator. It was funny because it wouldn't leak the fuel out but it would let the air in. Follow Ups: |

| I also have a 89 Ford 7.3, 155,000 miles, I also have a similar problem if I park with the front end up hill. I mentioned this to a friend, and he said its the check valve in the fuel pump allowing some of the fuel to seep back past the pump, thus getting some air in the line. Now we just try to be sure to park it with the front end down hill, no problem. Are you parking with the front end up hill? If so, try my trick. Follow Ups: |

| I have a 91 f250 7.3 liter diesel truck, and I had a similar problem. Turns out I "sucked a valve" and was only running on 7 cylinders. Had to take apart my engine, but haven't had any problems since. Funny that it wasn't more noticeable than it was but it did give me some problems in the morning on the 1st starts. Follow Ups: |

| My guess is you are getting air in the system. They were good for that. You can take the water seperator out, that should help some. Could be the return lines from the injectors leaking, could be about anything really. Try finding a friend that likes to smell like diesel and during that first cranking of the morning, press the valve stem on the fuel filter and see if any air comes out. Some should. | Buy a electric fuel pump, hook into line between filter and injector pump, Hook it up to a toggel switch and flip switch while wait to start light is on if any fuel drained back to tank causing pump to lose prime over night this should get the fuel to injector pump and be ready to start Follow Ups: |

| Just bought the 89 diesel with 7.3 L. Unit has new injection pump, new injectors, and fuel line. While looking an engine with mechanic I noted the rebuild sticker from ford in relation to all problems this particular truck had with block/coolant, etc. How often do I have to add coolant addittive and is it just a a mix with water or antifreeze or what? Any other general maintenance tips. Follow Ups: |
