In "theory" an IHC 1486 made 145.7 pto hp. It had a 436cid diesel engine and they were made 1976-81.
The 1586 was made the same years, also had a 436 but was "rated" at 161.5 pto hp. In reality, most owners claim vastly greater hp levels - as much as 220 or more hp! This is because they are apparantly easy to "turn up". I have met very few 1066 owners who claim less than 170 hp, ( for a tractor supposedly 113-125 pto hp), so your best bet for any of these newer and supposedly "larger" tractors is to try them on a dynometer and see what the engine tests. Your result will NOT be comparable to an authentic 'Nebraska" test result but it will allow bragging rights and some idea as to how much power is really there.

i have had quite a few 1066,1086 size tractors the lowest one tested was a 1086 at 155 on a good dyno.,they say the reason for the high hp levels is wear in the pump(delivers more fuel) and faulty quality control at ih.. they normally pull real good and are easy on fuel, ive also found about a muffler eliminator thats good for about 10 hp. with the case /ih /new holland B.S. im probally not going to buy another red one if they are going to be red. but the ones we have had have been good tractors and our farm has used them since the 1930s.

There is no difference in cubic inch on the motor but the 1586 have a bigger turbo but only has a 6 speed trans 1486 have a 8 speed and if you have the TA. And for tommyw how do ya get the muffler eleminator. Thanks
