I'm in the market for a tractor to keep 100 acres cut. A lot of the land is pretty steep on the hillsides. I was looking at the Kubota M9540L (low profile) but wondered if the regular M9540 would be sufficient. If the wheels are spaced all the way out, I'm wondering if would make that much of a difference. Any recommendations?

| | There's no question that a low profile tractor will be harder to tip over on a side hill than a higher row crop tractor. Putting the wheels/tires out will help a lot too. I also agree with using a roll bar and SEAT BELT.

| Besides Rick"s comment, you need to make sure that you don"t travrse the hillside laterally along a contour line. You want to be going staight up and down the hill or at a angle to the vertical.
You need to watch your speed and don"t turns tight and watch for big bumps. Make sure that your tractor has a ROPS or CAB and PUT YOUR SEAT BELT ON!It can save your life.

| | Thanks for the comments. I guess where I was coming from was the center of gravity (cg) of a "low profile" tractor versus the cg of a regular "row crop" style tractor will be different. I'm thinking the lp model will be harder to tip if weight and width are the same on both models. Or will it? My grandfather cut the hills on this place for 20 years with a 2 wheel drive Deutz, widened and fluid in tires. He also went slow. It had a pretty low center of gravity - it was not very tall. I didn't know if anyone had used a "low profile" model for bushogging on hillsides. These models are typically used for poultry houses. I thought it might be a pretty good model for being on a hillside if weighted up good and widened out.
