Model 4500. This was bought new and though it is pushed pretty hard, it is not abused. Lately it grinds when using the shuttle to go into reverse. Not going into forward. Just a little ggrrr, then it goes right in. Any ideas on what"s going on, and can I fix it? (No, I can"t buy a JD.) Thanks

Syncros are just little springs between two gears. They could be worn because of extensive usage, ie a loader tractor, going between forward and reverse, and also poor maintenance/tranny oil neglect... Basically means tearing into the tranny to replace the syncros and take a look at the gears for wear in the same time.
