I bought a recharge kit for my IH 1086, but i dont know which is the low and high ports. Also, on each port is what appears to be a shutoff on the end of the port. It takes a 1/4" wrench to turn it. Does that need to be turned out or in to install the new refridgerant? My low preesure light in the tractor cab is on and i dont think the compresor is running when the light is on. i hooked up the new kit to what i think is the low side port, but the stuff doesnt seem to be leaving the can and going into the system. Can anyone shed some light on this?

| recharging A/C is not only about filling the system, if the system has leaked empty, you have to get the air ( and especially any moisture in that air)out of it first, and that is going to need a vacuum pump for 20 to 30 minutes, air in the system will cause it to not cool (and the moisture will freeze inside as well as cause acids and rust in the system), even with refrigerant mixed in it, also, if a line blew, some oil will have leaked out, so it will need to be topped up as well(special oil)
- the valves on the line fittings (1/4 in wrench)need to be in the middle position to charge or drain, all the way out closes the charge port, all the way in closes off the line going to the compressor, connect charge hose, turn valve in part way, turn valve out before removing charge hose

| | Yes the have to be opend to fill and the High side has the smaller hose and the low side the larger hose. Also the high side always goes to the condensor from the compressor.

| On some of those recharge kits you have to screw the needle all the way into the can and then back it out to get the gas to flow.
You probably need to turn the 1/4' valve open, CCW to open usually.
Also, low and high side parts are usually different sizes so you cannot mess it up.
