Long 1199B is a 3PH backhoe. This one was made somewhere about 1994.

I simply cannot find a manual for this Long 1199B 3PH backhoe.

Meanwhile. What type fluid does the "book" if I could read one call for?

Mine has tractor hydraulic fluid in it, but when it gets hot, it begins leaking around the boom cylinder end cap. The Packing. Had it fixed, but leaks again now. Around the packing; the seal on the ram does not leak. Suspect it requires a different fluid, this was what was in it. I drained some and compared it to hyd fluid, but that don"t mean the previous owner did not put the wrong stuff in. Fluid come out around the packing and it has way too much arriation in the fluid. Have it back at the shop now being repaired again.

So, what fluid?

On Jan 6 2008, on YTMAG backhoe forum;Swede asked and stated his (1199B) manual called for type A tranny fluid. (Note: Only that stuff no longer exist.)
What is the replacement for type A?
Also, believe the posting to be internet heresay, unless validated. Does anyone have a manual that confirms type A tranny fluid?

Just bought a used 1199B. Manual says to use Type A ATF in hyd system. Would regular tractor hyd oil work?

135FAN said use what the book called for.

OK, Type A hyd went away in 1960...

Three questions.
1. What fluid.
2. How do you set the fluid level.
3. Where can I get a manual, or who will scan and sell a of their Long 1199B manual?

No response noted.
I have learned from other type contacts, that the Long 1199B has a check plug 8" down on right side. Filled at vent plug center top to check plug.

Does anyone own one of these?

Is it tranny fluid?

You don't fill to the top, is there a plug to CHECK fluid level? I cannot see one>
