I just purchased a 700 Versatile at an auction sale tractor has 9500 hour total with 4500 on the motor. The old tractor seems in pretty good shape just want it for scraping and a bit of harrowing. Any feed back would be great I know these 555 cummins don't have a good reputation but we don't plan to run her to had.Does anyone know what rpm to run the engine at? Any other dose and don't would be great.

555 didn"t have a good rep because people asked to much of them and thought the motor could do more than it was designed to. the 555 was a good motor but like was said it couldn"s lug. the 903 waqs the same way but when they came out lugging them wasn"t much of an issue because they had enough hp to pull most impliments available at least here in wheat country
get a pirometer to moniter your exhaust temp and don"t let it spike if it sarts to run hotter than normal stop and gear down don"t pull it that hard and your motor should last a while unless it has already been abused
take care and good luck

That engine should run around 2850 rpm under load and about 3000 rpm no load.My dad had a 700 series 2 years ago,it gave good service. The 555 would not lug like a 855,but it worked ok.Far as anything to watch out for,we only had 4000 hrs on our tractor when it was sold and no trouble.
