Our 8310 has blown the manifold gasket twice. It had about 1200 hrs. on it the first time the JD mechanic said it was probably a problem from factory assembly. He repaired it and said it should be fine. It has now happened again at 2200 hrs. It is a two piece assembly and has leaked on both ends both times. The local machine shop said use studs and torque at 35 ft/lbs. is this correct? Or is this a problem with these engines?

Are the bolts breaking also or are the gaskets just blowing out? The ones we had probelems with, the bolts were breaking and then blowing out the gasket. There was a different manifold bolt that we used that was harder I believe. I don't remember the torque, but I believe that it was increased as well. We never used the studs, but then we never had any repeat failures either. Did you have the manifold planed? ould be that the ends are not true.

The machine shop did take about .040 off the manifold. He was skeptical of the two piece design and maybe it was warping under the heat. It did break a couple of the bolts and when we ordered new ones from JD they sent the wrong ones and didn't say anything about an upgrade.

We used the R523525 bolts and R73783 spacers that are shown on the 8020 series parts manual

Actually that is the bolts that they sent but did not include the spacers. They were too long and we needed to get the tractor back in the field so we got the studs from a local auto parts store. Thanks for the help. Hopefully we have it fixed this time.
