I have a Tw 25, 87 with a dumper trailer. The TW has non synchromesh gear box. Can someone tell me how to drive this smoothly? tricks? Upshift is no problem but downshift on the fly is a big problem....

And my brakes are bad.. Feels like both the pedals are soft. Tried bleed it several times. Can they be worn out? Or maybe an internal leakage? No external leakage observed. The tractor has 2100 hours.
Anyone with the same issues?
Regards ArcBor-, Norway.

The internal brake pistons are somewhat known to leak on those things... If you post on the Ford board and ask for Bern he can probably fill you in on any details you want to know about a TW...
In terms of shifting... the Ford 8 speed transmission was always known as the 'crash box'. It's hard to get a clean down shift but they usually shift up fairly decently. I would suggest you try shifting it down at low-mid engine speed and double clutch... by that I mean clutch, pull it out of gear, then release the clutch and rev the engine up at the same time, then clutch again and cram it back in gear. It's still going to grind a bit..

Are you double clutching/rev matching your downshifts? Unsynchronized box requires different driving technique then a synchro one.
