Good day all. New to me 2001 4400, just going over everything to see what needs attention. Found that it marks it's territory under the front end.

I know it's fairly common to have leaks around the wheels, and that's not where my leak is. It's the rear seal inside the trunion area where the drive shaft enters the axle. It's very much coming from there, and not the engine.

I've searched high and low for someone who has written something about doing this seal, but only come up with the other, more common seals.

So, was wondering if anyone has done this repair before. Questions I have before starting are:

-Does the whole axle have to come out, or can I just take the rear trunion off and get to the seal?

-Can you get the front drive shaft out without taking the front axle loose?

-Anything else I should be doing while I'm in there?
