My Satoh tractor is backfiring. The oil light is on. It runs VERY rough, then dies immediately.

I was mowing yesterday. It ran fine for maybe 20 minutes, then started to run rough. Within seconds it was backfiring and dying. I just barely managed to get it parked. Today it didn't want to start, then immediately started backfiring and died. The oil light was flickering.

I'm guessing I need to change a part (cap, coil, condenser, something) but I don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

1981(84?) Satoh Tractor S-650G 25 hp 2800 rpm, 62.23 in3, 1.02 liter - Satoh has Mazda 4-cylinder engine.

No answer, but in case anyone else finds this later, all I did was to clean the contacts in the distributor cap with a file and moisten them and both ends of each spark plug wire and the coil wire with WD-40. I bought a new distributor cap and rotor, but so far it has been running just fine with the old ones. The contacts in the radiator cap are definitely pitted, so I'll need to replace it soon.
