I have a John Deere 970 with a sticky clutch. If I leave it for even a week in humid weather, the clutch sticks. The dealer says I need to clamp the clutch pedal down whenever I park the tractor. Is there really no other solution to this problem? Follow Ups: |

Is it the disks & presure plate/flywheel sticking together or a linkage problem? Seen a 2120 with a sticky clutch because the linkage/spline grease fittings were never lubed. They are under a pop off cover inside the bell housing on those tractors. Follow Ups:

I have a 970 MFWD at work and have had no problems, but I have a 1050 at home and the second stage of the clutch stays stuck (does not disengage the PTO). I also have other 50 series at work and all have had problems with at least the second stage of the clutch. Do you ever have trouble engaging your PTO? Follow Ups:

Have you figured out what circumstances cause the problem or do you keep your clutch clamped every time you park the tractor? Follow Ups:

I have a 970 that I bought new and I have never had a clutch problem. What do you mean by a "sticky" clutch? Does it only do it when you first start it up after sitting for a while? Follow Ups:

What happens is the tractor will start up all right but I can't get it into gear. As I understand it the clutch plates basically rust together. As for sitting a while, I guess it depends what you mean by sitting for a while. The first time it happened the tractor had been sitting for a month or so. The last two times it's only been a week. It seems to be more of a problem when the humidity is high. Follow Ups:

I have a manual shift Deere 970 with 670 clock hours about half of the hours using the front bucket so a lot of clutch work. I am getting a lot of slippage. How do I adjust the clutch or is there another problem? There is a short clutch linkage with about 1/8" of thread in front of the jam nut and 1 inch behind. There is a long linkage going to the differencial--it does not move when the clutch pedal is depressed. Help would be appreciated--daily manure removal!
