I need a knowledgable person's advice on getting the final drive (right side) to this tractor fixed? All the bearings and three smaller bevel gears are bad along with the two connecting housings. The contact points (seals areas) between them is worn and knurled up, a little too much I'm afraid. I have it all torn down and believe I can do the gears and bearings but the housings are the problem. I'm very concerned I won't be able to afford the costs to do this repair! The prices I received from the Kabota dealer for just the gears/bearings is outragous! Now the 2 housings appear bad too boot! Can i get them built-up (tig welded) and machined to OEM specs? Are remanufactured housings and/or complete final drives available? If so - where/whom? Could someone please explain why and how to set "gear backlash" (using shims)? Thanks kindly Follow Ups: |

| hello back at you Lance. I'm in western Mich. Yes' i was talking about the right front indeed. I believe the left front drive to be ok. The 2 housings are damaged but they can be reworked. The bevel gear housing gasket area needs work (welded and then machined)and the axle housing is slightly worn (needs less work). Finding the right people to do it for the right price vs. replacing them with new or used parts is my next dilemma. What area do you live at and what do you have (year, model, condition, etc.)regarding these parts? Thanks for responding to my post! ~~~~~ Mike Follow Ups: |

| | We just went through the read end of our '83 Kubota L305 DT and found that some parts are becoming unavailable through Kubota. I would recommend that you search for good used parts - for the housings, in particular. If you need a reference for used tractor parts, let me know. Just one further note ... The used part actually cost me more than the new one I was able to find. I forgot that fact when I suggested used parts. I suspect that could vary though! It's worth checking! Follow Ups: |

| Troubles in Kubota land ehh? boy! I am just praying that the wheels don't fall off when I'm on an icy hill or something! The Kubota dealers tell me they have the parts I need "in stock"! Apparently this is a very common break down point/parts. Surprise! If Kubota engineers would have designed a litle better seal/contact/pivot point, then the damn front drive units would not leak and fill up with nasty undesirables and voila ~ fail! Yes, any reference to a good parts place (CHEAP!) would be appreciated very much! I hope all the work you did on you tractor was successful. Thanks ~ Mike Follow Ups: |
