Hi, I have a JD955 which requires a #7 backhoe attachment. I was given a #8 backhoe attachment. I need to find out if I can modify a #8 to fit my JD955. Has anyone ever done this ? I would also like to find out how the #7 mounts - does anyone have a manual that they can fax a coyuple of pages ? I called my local JD dealer and they faxed me parts descriptions for both units and they look very similar. Does anyone know if I can just buy a #7 mounting frame and fit it on my #8 backhoe ? Any/all comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks, John

I'm not sure I'd try it honestly, The smallest tractor that JD seems to recommend in the brochures I have weighs nearly 1000lbs more than a 955. I figure the front of the tractor will be pretty light when moving and the whole machine will get pulled around quite a bit when digging. The subframe question is best answered by a dealer. In short, It might fit, but not work very well. BTW, there are several #7 hoes on tractorbynet classifieds.

Hi Scott, thanks for the response. Is the brochure you refer to on the #8 backhoe ? Is this something you could fax to me ? Also thanks for the refernec to tractorbynet. I took a look but only saw one for sale. Getting a #7 is certainly a cleaner option. Thanks again, John

It was a couple brochures on the 50 series tractors and another more generic one that covered the 70 series plus the 55 series tractors. There was only a brief blurb on the backhoes. I just looked at the specs on the different machines.

Note: the 47 is just a newer version of the #7 backhoe. The 48 backhoe is the newer version of the #8 and #8A
