| Make sure you have a place that can get repair parts for, you those 4 number Yannies (1300,1301,1500 etc,) are grey market and parts can be hard to come by, the American models when they were sold new here has a 3 number designation, much easier to find parts for these, same tractor just where it was originally sold makes the difference. | I read somewhere the other day that Yanmar USA has had to quit suppling parts for the grays. Seems Deere did not like the competition for their green&yellow Yanmars. Follow Ups: |

| I went to the Yanmar website and noticed it had a caution up concerning purchasing grey market Yanmar's. The site mentioned specific problems with non US made Yanmars. Does anyone have any information concerning the safety of the grey market Yanmars. I noticed the price for a grey market is approx. $6,000. Follow Ups: |

| | Putting the safety legal stuff aside the biggest concern would be that Yanmar is making it hard to get parts. A $6,000 tractor that dosen't work and can't be fixed is $6,000 down the drain. The safety stuff could be taken care of easily by requiring the owner to install the required safety equipment and certify it has been done. The good old farmall M or JD A don't have all the safety stuff of a modern tractor so why are the old Yanmars different. The legal stuff was put in place by Yanmar and the other tractor companies to prevent the importing of their less expensive tractors. I'm sure they could get that undone if they really wanted to.
I think it comes down to $$$$$ and they believe imported tractors will decrease their profit margins. Follow Ups: |

| I've heard that too, seems I remember that people would have to give a serial number and it would have to match there database as a U.S. sold Yanmar before you could get the part. Follow Ups: |
