I have the subject transaxle in my Scotts Garden tractor which I believe was made by Murray but I am not sure. I noticed some oil leaking out of the bottom rear end of the Peerless #205-024 Hydrostatic Trans Axle. I will have to elevate the rear end and crawl under the machine to see if I can find the fill plug to check the level. My instruction manual for the tractor simply says to refer all questions on the transmission to my local Peerless dealer without any further documentation supplied. Can anyone tell me where the fill and drain plugs are located and if there is a filter and what type of hydraulic fluid the transmission uses? Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem with my Scotts 1642, same transmission. I've been getting less and less power. to the point of stalling out in reverse and crawling up hills. If you remove the battery, and clean all the debris from the top of the transmission case, you will find two rubber plugs. I've been doing some 'forum' searching myself how to fix this problem. If you get this problem solved, please drop me an email. I hate to have to bring it into the shop if its a simple fix.
