i have a JD 6620 combine w/443 corn head.
i have trouble feeding down corn past the ear savers. yesterday i saw a corn head that had some aftermarket parts on it and the owner said it cured his problem.
i'll try to describe it- it's a piece of curved (like the snouts) steel that bolts to the original snouts just behind the cast nosepiece, and extends up past the earsavers, basically covering the snouts and giving a smooth path for down corn up and over the earsavers. it does much the same as the newer plastic snouts, but i don't want to put $2200 in my older head to upgrade to plastic.
the guy that has them bought the head with them on and doesn't know who makes or sells them. the JD dealer doesn't know where they come from, either.
if anybody out there knows what they're called and who makes them or sells them, i'd sure appreciate knowing where to get them.
thanks in advance.
ps- if this is the wrong site, sorry, but i didn't see one for combines.

They were built by short line company several years ago, were pricey if member right, dont, think they are made any more. In your conditions you will have to take your ear savers off anyway,so just take them off. It will help alot. Next step will be a corn reel if really bad.

We have a 444 head and we were having the same problem with the downed corn feeding. I took the earsavers off and it worked a lot better. Isabel sure made a mess of the corn around here. Almost all of the corn we didn't get picked before the storm got flattened. We finally got all of ours up, and it was the best corn crop we ever had.

You could ask at 'Combine Talk Show' - which
is at www.harvesting.com I believe. Lots of
good combine folks there.
