My son and I were out shopping around and came upon a 2+2 IH 3788 and the fellow ask $5500 for it. It looked fairly good, was showing 4150 hrs., cab interior and seat was above average, didn't show any leaks or a lot of wear on the three point hitch or draw bar. Is this all those things are worth?

Yes, These tractors sale very cheap in my area.Be careful-The engines in many of these units are shot. Many people people buy these tractors and repowr them with Either CAT or Cummins diesel- Makes for relatively cheap horsepower if you are will ing to go that route.

Let me figer. A 50yr old tractor running is worth about 5 times what it costs new,a 30yr old tractor is about twice it's cost, and a big 25 yr old primary tillage monster is hardly worth scrape prices. Reminds me of my old uncle Joe when dad ask him back in the 60's why he didn't get bigger machinery and farm more ground. Joe said "The next guy might not want that bigger machinery and I'd be stuck with it.If I can't make it on may 220 acres I'll sell part of it and try to do a better job with what's left." I think an 800 series Ford was the biggest tractor Joe was ever on.There aren't many farmers out there that think that way today.
