David Brown 1210 transmission shifting problem

Have a David Brown 1210 where the transmission shift lever gets stuck when shifting between reverse and any forward gear. This does not happen all the time but seems to occur more frequently when attempting to shift quickly or when the tractor is on a slight incline. When the lever sticks the only way to get it unstuck is to unbolt it and then stick a screwdriver inside the transmission and slide the tang over with a screwdriver. It does does not take much effort to slide the tang so there does not seem to be a reason for the sticking. Any ideas anyone?
