Carruth, Jr. on January 23, 2005 at 13:42:48: Sounds like the starter isn't getting enough power. When you bought a new battery, did you get one big enough? Also, what guage cables are you using? We use 0 guage welding cables for the pos. and 1 guage for the neg. When you replaced the starter, did you replace the solenoid (or did it come with the new starter, im assuming it did, if not, take it to a starter/alternator shop to get it checked). Did it work fine right after you got the battery, and slowly die down, or did it not work still? Also, did you check to see if the flywheel still had plenty of teeth left (they weren't worn down). If it is clicking, try larger cables and put some grease on the battery terminals, if that doesn't help, it is probably the solenoid or possibly a bad battery. Its not the volts that matters, its the amps, so go to an auto parts store (carquest, autozone) and get a cell tester (the ones you stick in the cell and pull some acid out to tell you if the cell is good). If it was starting ok when the battery was new, then the battery isn't charging, so take the alternator in and have it checked, check the wires from the alternator to the battery, and last step, if you tractor has one, replace the battery temp. sensor, which is a round rubber thing that fits into the bottom of the battery box, if you have one, there will be two wires that run from the bottom of the battery box to the alternator. Sorry it is so long, so many questions and so much to do, but having gone through this problem with my ford 6610 II series, we checked all this before we found out it was a temperature sensor for the battery, which tells the alternator when to charge it (???). Hope one of these solves your problems. Hurst
