Carruth,Jr. on January 23, 2005 at 19:56:59: I would make up a wire with a slide connector and attach it to the starter ignition wire terminal. Pull the starter wire off, and put your jumper wire on. Then, with the tractor in neutral and the brakes locked, touch the other end of the jumper wire to the pos terminal on the battery. That should get you going, and help determine where the problem is without buying more parts or wasting more time. If you don't get her to fire, then start checking the primary cables and connections, battery condition, and possibly the starter engagement. If this does get you going, then you need to start running down the starting circuit wires and checking the safety switches. There is a neutral start switch, and I would suspect a PTO disengagement switch, in addition to a possible bad ignition switch. The old style mechanical lucas switches fail more often than they should on some tractors. Once you get up and running, then you can check the charging system. You should get 14.2 V or better when it is charging. HTH. Rod
