Re: JD 2950 locked in gearPosted by R. Is the tractor still in low range, but you can move the shift lever from reverse to low? Does it have a Sound Guard Cab? Shut the tractor off. Crawl under the tractor and look on the right side of the transmittion. There are two shafts coming down from the cab that move two levers on the side of the transmittiion. Have someone move the levers and observe. I had one of the shafts break leaving it in low range. If you are lucky you may find this or another problem in the linkage. If you are unlucky. We had our 2755 open to do some tranny work last spring. It has the Sound Guard Cab. The shifting mechanism has a shaft inside a hollow shaft to control high, low reverse shifting. The hollow shaft has a milled out section to clear parts inside the transmittion. Ours was cracked 3/4 of the way through. If it had failed it would have been stuck in low, reverse, or neutral and no way to shift gears. The only way to change the part was to remove the cab, rockshaft and split the tractor in two places. I hope you are lucky! Hope this helps John
