Anti freeze

Can any one give me some info on anti freeze I am trying to find out if it is better to have low silicate or no silicate in heavy duty diesel engine. I have several Cummins engine on my farm from a 4 cylinder to a 2003 n14 to a 1975 855. I also have some 466 ihc and some gas engines. If I need silicate in my anti freeze why. I have tried to find this out on the web but can’t seem to find anything that I can under stand it is all over my head. Thanks for the info.
