The free travel should fix the problem. Check your linkage for binding. There was an update on the rod from that comes off of the clutch pedal. Does your clutch make any noises. Some 5000 series did not have adequate clearance in the clutch housing and caused the fingers to be damaged or broken. The cure is to split the tractor, repair the clutch, and grind out the housing. If the tractor is being used in a loader type of situation the clutch free travel may need to be readjusted weekly. Deere originally made these tractors to compete with other brands in the same size class. To drop their price some comforts were not used. These transmissions have a tendacy to not synchronize smoothly. It helps sometimes to slow the engine down and then shift. I hope I have helped you out. You may already know what I have told you. Overall, these tractors are good and dependable.
