The Powerstar engine is excellent for pulling especially the 6 cylinder but I have found for sheer guts in the 100hp sector our six cylinder 1990 Ford 7810 takes some beating. The 5000 Select-o-speed was a lot better then that fitted to the 2000 and 3000 as the 5000 had more room to accomidate the unit while the 2000 and 3000 had it literally squeezed in, with a totally different mechinism. As the unit wore, the gearbox took longer to complete its complicated shifts, and when it found the correct gear more often then not you would get a nasty jerk.
