It's true. Common knowledge. A 1000 PTO will take twice the power that a 540 will. Horsepower is torque*rpm/5252 (forgot the constant) So, a 1000 RPM shaft can transfer more horsepower because it spins faster. Take a look at any larger equipment and see what the speed is. I have yet to see anything bigger than a bushhog with a 540 PTO. Even our 12 foot stalk shredder had 1000 PTO. Any gearbox rated for more than 100 horse is gonna be 1000. Aaron
