I don"t think the chains tear up the tires.Make sure you put the smooth side of the crosslink hooks towards the tire. But spinning on the ice/gravel without them will tear up tires. They make special chains for ag lug tires that usually have two of the cross links hooked together at midpoint with a ring. Is this what you are looking at ? We bought our chains at a local tire shop.
