for sealing the 2 case halves, use the product you have been recommended, is an excellent product, good quality clear or black silicone works as well, be sure to check for any cracked welds, particularily if leaking near the "dog leg"
pull the cutter bar and lay it across a couple 45gallon barrels to work on is the simplest
- naturally, check all the bearings and gears over carefully when it is apart, clean the surfaces of all old gasket material ( wire wheel or 3M pad works well), brake cleaner works excellent to remove the last oily film, and use a bead between 1/8 to 1/4 of the gasket goop, going around the bolt holes to the inside of them, when is all laid down, just run your finger across the gasket maker to spread it out a small amount, and to make sure you have a continuous line with no air pockets, put together and tighten, a drop of blue loctite on bolt threads if you want, and just tighten like any other bolt that size, no gorilla arms required, good luck, that 3 blade system is still the one to beat
