yeah, sure sounds like it broke the fork, and that noise you have had kinda confirms it
if you pull the range box off the side you can look in and see the forks and such, is usually best to replace both synchros when your in there, replace the one fork and the pads on the other, and if there is ANY doubt, replace the shafts, i have seen a couple break, i also like to safety wire the roll pins, had one drop out once
you can do it all from the back with lots of patience, some good thick grease to hold the pair of 1/2 rings in the groove, and about 2 extra hands might be nice, but there is no room for them really, just make sure it is clean where you work in case a synchro flies apart, that way you can find all the parts and put it back together
