Can't speak directly to your Kubota, but in general the heat circuit on Japanese compacts works like this. (OK the M-series isn't really a compact) The resistor (indicator coil) is wired in parallel with the plugs. A failed indicator coil will not interrupt the plug circuit. The plug circuit is the only circuit energised by the keyswitch in the heat position. Some tractors will also heat while cranking. Tractors with indicator lamps instead of the coil typically use a relay in the heat circuit. Hope this helps.
