the doors area a pain. Plus a lot of times we need to communicate with the guy in the hole or on the ground and the closed doors dont help, The cabs are pretty small and it is nice to run an excavator with the glass up and the door open, alot of the newer machines are quieter now so we can do this, it is also a force of habit. Most older operators are used to the doors open so they can hear their engines running, as well as a lot of operators who do their own repairs, the sound of the engine is one of the best diagnostic tools to a mechanic. all in all, we just like the fresh air I guess. Most newer machines come with A/C
