Belarus 825 valve adjustment

My valves are noisy on my 825. The owners manual says to adjust them at 1000 hours. It says to begin by turning the engine to TDC on #1 cylinder. I don't see any marks. Otherwise I would have to pull out an injector and stick my finger in the hole and have someone turn over the engine until I can feel it hit the top of the compression stroke. Does anyone have a better solution? Any thoughts appreciated.
