I am considering buying an m-600. The seller is asking $1800 for it, and I am wondering if that is a reasonable price for its condition.
It runs, and operates fairly well; but needs a lot of work. The engine exhaust manifolds leak badly where they join the cylinders, enough to pop loudly when the engine fires. I think the manifold gasket has long been blown out, and I am not sure if this is repairable without replacing the cylinders and manifolds. The bucket is rusted through and patched in a place or two. The hydraulic hoses at the bucket arm joints are cracking and need to be replaced. Also, for some reason, the cabin super-structure was cut off, so that the operator sits in the open with no side or overhead protection. Otherwise, the unit seems to be in pretty good shape for its age, showing a lot of use, but intact and not bent up or obviously abused. I don't think there is a hydraulic leak, and the bearings and movable joints seem to be in reasonable shape.
I am not very familiar with the skid steer loader market, and I am wondering if I would go wrong with this deal. Would I be able to buy another similar unit that is all there and with better engine condition for the same money or a few hundres dollars more?
I will appreciate your comments on this.
