What if you put a big rotary cutter on a small tractor?Posted by Josh DeWind on May 31, 2002 at 16:40:09 from (66.108.253.194): I've got an IH B-414 with the PTO rated at 36 hp+ and because I have heavy growth to cut back -- 2" to 3" in places -- I want to put a heavy duty cutter on it. How much PTO horse power is necessary to drive a heavy duty 5-foot or 6-foot rotary cutter? The specs on the Woods' 5-foot heavy duty Bush Bull (the 6000 series) suggest 40 to 150 PTO hp. For the 6-foot cutter they suggest 50 to 150 hp. Alternatively for the medium duty cutters they suggest 30 to 120 hp for the 5-foot cutter and 35 to 120 for the 6-foot cutter. Should I stick to the medium duty and have difficulty cutting the brush or go for the heavy duty cutter and put strain on the tractor? What difference would the heavy duty really have on the tractor?
