Alex,
I spent about 1600 hours over the past 8 years in an 8850 pulling a 7 shank DMI ripper. It never ran out of power, but sometimes I couldn't get it all to the ground. There were a few years that the fuel pump was going out every year, but the last 3 years I ran it, the fuel pump worked fine.
The tractor was hard on fuel. I couldn't make 100 acres on a tank. The 9400 that replaced the 8850 saves enough fuel to make 1 payment a year.
We never had to overhaul the engine, but it was getting hard to start on a cold day. When weighing the cost to overhaul the motor against what a 20 year old tractor is worth, the decision to trade became easy.
