It is a vane pump. The safety is located on the loader control valves (located by the operator) and the noise is from the pump at the front of the engine. In fact in order to quiet the pump within a few minutes, I max. in or out one set of loader cylinders to hold the safety in its lift position to warm the oil. Otherwise it can scream and chatter for a half hour or more if the loader isn't used hard to warm the oil. I tend to think it is worse to let it scream for a long time, but I could be wrong...........
