Re: ford 7710,good tractor?Posted by pudding on January 29, 2003 at 16:50:25 from (172.153.189.242): In Reply to: ford 7710,good tractor? posted by steve on January 28, 2003 at 17:18:53: if i remeber right it was listed as a 97hp tractor 4 pot turbo, the engine is the same bulletproof block as the 5000, 6600, 7700 etc.......7000 the split folding rear window was interesting, i drove a 7710 2wd for a contractor and ran a 7700 for a spud farmer, the 7700 has the same gear pattern as the ford 5000, i really liked that gearbox, i felt it was a better set up.......the 7710 had a 16x4 gearbox, which to me didn't have the right gears for loader work in the field (we used to move a lot of bales) 7700 also had a toggle switch on the floor for changing between hi and low, its better than the 7710 which had just 2 buttons.....if i brought a 7710 i would like retrofit the 7700 toggle switch on the 7710 on the 3pt hitch lever assembly under the cab is prone to breaking the 'star' assembly, this is a thingee which allows the contols to flex with cab movement....well thats what i found also remeber that these tractors have twin fuel tanks and you have to flick the switch to get the gauge to work on the separate fuel levels a/c is a common pump, easy to work on, airfilter is under a panel under the front of the hood, the panel can sometimes be tight to get off, the q cab was good, great for its time, and i don't mind spending a long day in it (with the twin tanks you can!) both tractors had good hydraulic flow and dual remotes hours?......the 7700 had 10k on orginal motor and gearbox, the 7710 had a new motor at 7500 hours......... good tractor, yup very!.......for there age, i liked the gearbox in the 7700 better........it had a reverse in each range, rather than a reverse in the range change, to me its a lot faster shuttling my on opinion: the gearbox was the only thing i didn't like about the whole 10 series, to me it ruined the tractor......but hey, i spend a lot of times in loader operations, and utility jobs....and was always in a hurry laters pudding
