i have a JD 870 compact diesel tractor. it has a new battery and the terminals and ground and all other related starting circuit wiring is solid and clean and tight. the problem is that the tractor will start and run day after day with no problems except every once in a while for no apparent reason it won't start. just plumb dead. not a sound. i checked the battery and it is ok and when i tap lightly on the battery terminals then it usually starts and does fine for several days/weeks and then all of a sudden it acts up again. the terminals and all connections are clean and as tight as i can get them. what could be wrong? i have checked and rechecked everything in the wiring and the starter and even used a substitute battery and the same thing happens. any clues about this?
