Does it chatter more when the tractor hydraulics warm up? Check the dipstick with a magnifying glass when cold and then after the hydraulics warm up. Look for tiny air bubbles. My guess is that the seals are worn in the lift cylinder and as that oil passes the seal under pressure it sprays out and accumulates air in the system. On some tractor models you can remove the hydraulic filler cap and with a light see the oil spraying out of the cylinder barrel. As the pump tries to compensate to hold the pistons position in the cylinder it will chatter (hunting to maintain position). It will get worse as the spraying oil accumulates air. I learned this from the same symptoms on a 2440. A little moisture pitted the cylinder barrel and ruined the seal. Had to pull the seat and upper rockshaft housing off. Lightly hone the barrel and install a new seal. Did it all myself and cost only Deere parts. Relatively simple fix. Installing the piston and seal into the barrel was the toughest part. However its still working ten years later and not settling.
