I would guess it is the sending unit. It is located on the right side of the clutch housing where you access the flywheel to find the timing marks. The unit is in the cover plate and requires a 7/16" wrench to remove 2 - 1/4" bolts. You may have to remove the lower flood-light assembly. The end of the sender may be covered with oil or may simply be bad. You can also adjust the unit in or out. Good luck!
