This series of tractor is considered by John Deere to be a throwaway tractor. They don't flush the transmission housing out after machining and before assembly on any of the 4000 series tractors. You might want to look at the Deere website under service notes. I believe this one of the models there have been reported problems with the transmission filter. JD is trying to band-aid the problem instead of fixing it. I have a related problem with my new 4010 tractor apparently John Deere doesn't think you spent enough money to get the transmission housing flushed out at the factory they want you to do it at your expense. I'll send you some pictures of what I found in my transmission fluid. John Deere considers this normal.
