They can be EXACTLY the same or they can be totally opposite. It depends on the control pattern that the machine is set up with. Today's machines are built to accomodate each operator's preference and it just takes a few changes to reconfigure the control pattern. I have seen two identical machines have totally opposite controls. Once you get use to a certain pattern it takes practice and patience to go to a different one. Safety also becomes an issue. When I have to go to a different machine that I'm not use to I go slow and tell everyone to stand back. Like everything else the more time you spend on each type the easier it is to switch around. Of course though if you just stay with the same one all the time that is even better. Hope this helps. Good Luck and Have Fun.
