Running exhaust underneath

Posted by T-Bone on December 14, 2000 at 08:32:55 from (216.131.1.128):

I have a fairly new 231S MF diesel tractor that I am pretty pleased with. One thing that I don't like, however, is the vertical exhaust pipe. It is so high it catches limbs, vines, etc when bushhogging around trees, which I do a lot of. I'm afraid if I cut much of it off, it will be blowing right back in my face. I would like to have it re-routed out the bottom. A muffler shop will bend a pipe from the manifold and route it down but the ones I have seen look like crap and cost $75 - $80. I am thinking about using some flexible pipe from the manifold to the muffler, which would be mounted under the running board on the left side. Has anybody had any experience with this flexible pipe? Will it rust out fast? Can you paint it with some heat resistant paint?
