Earl: Just out of curiosity, where in NNY does your dad live--that's my neck of the woods! Secondly, without knowing what he may have drove as a kid, a Ford 8N or 9N (or even a 2N, though they're rarer) would fit the bill nicely. You get 3 pt. hitch, hydraulics, and can mount a mower, wood splitter, or loader with minimal fuss. Plus, they're easy to get parts for, quite common, and reasonably inexpensive. They're also much easier to get on and off than many tractors.
