I saw several of these tractors at the State Fair and dealers this year and what they looked like to me was the 5503 was a 3 cylinder tractor I believe was made in Mexico. The are stripped down to minimum features with everything else being optional that you get standard on the higher level tractor.

The 6420 is the German made but American designed top line 85 HP utility tractor. It is a 4 cylinder 276 cu in engine that has been the base JD engine since the "new" generation tractors were introduced in the 60's. It is built on a separate chassis so you can drop the transmission without splitting the tractor. I am sure part of the reason was to isolate the operator from noise and vibration of the tractor better. The three point hitch is powered with two external hydraulic cylinders which makes service a lot easier. This is the Cadillac of utility tractors with the electronic dash and all the bells and whistles you can imagine. An open station two wheel drive model will probably sticker for $40K but most dealers will come off 10%.

The 6415 is the striped model of the 6420. It doesn’t have extendable pull arms on the three point hitch or the electronic dash. There are other minor differences but the basic tractors are pretty much the same. This model stickers for $35K.

The 6615 is the German striped model of the American 6 cylinder 95 HP 7220 row crop tractor.

The 6405 and the 6605 appear to be made in India versions of the 2750 and 4020 second generation tractors. They use the same 85 HP 4 cylinder and 95 HP 6 cylinder engines common to John Deere tractors for the last 40 years. What I suspect happened is JD shipped the tooling for those tractors to India and set up production there. The transmissions are different and I am not even sure they are syncromesh. The tractors have to be split for clutch replacement and the hitch lift cylinder is buried under the seat. The 6405 list price is about $30K. Personally, I would pay the extra $5K for a 6415 because I like the separate chassis and external lift cylinders.

When I was young, I drooled over Corvettes. Now I find I would rather spend $50K for a John Deere 7220. I guess middle aged crazy hits us in different ways.
