Re: Need advice on whether or not to buy skid steePosted by TimV on May 13, 2004 at 14:01:27 from (67.136.204.74): In Reply to: Need advice on whether or not to buy skid steer posted by Mike on May 11, 2004 at 11:56:32:
Mike: I have a L455 New Holland. It's an '89, and it is VERY handy! This is a smaller unit--3 cylinder Kubota diesel and about 25 HP. The only thing I would do differently if I was buying another one would be to get the remote hydraulics package and take a step or two up in HP. A skid-steer with remote hydraulics is probably the single most versatile motorized vehicle made, as the number of attachments availible is nearly unlimited. I think you would be very happy with a skid-steer for the things you mentioned, and you will constantly find new uses for it the longer you own it. The advice about not renting it out is very sound--people tend to treat ALL rented equipment (and skid-steers in particular) with the "run it like you stole it" mentality, resulting in lots of unnecessary damage and expensive repairs. Skid-steers are neither easy nor cheap to repair, and this can quickly eat into any profit you make.
