It's not a dumb question at all. Even knowing where you are, what kind of hay you want to grow, and what you are going to do with the hay once you have it up, there are still a lot of different options for equipment. As with most things, the amount you want to invest in the equipment will make a huge difference in what may be best for you. Another large consideration is how much time you will have to devote to putting up this hay. Let us know what climate you are in and what you are going to do with the hay, and from there you should hear lots of very good opinions, and maybe a couple of strange ones thrown in just for good measure.
