Re: Re: WHY IS THE ALLIS WD45 WORTH SO LITTLE??Posted by mtgumibear on November 06, 2004 at 11:45:13 from (64.236.240.190): In Reply to: Re: WHY IS THE ALLIS WD45 WORTH SO LITTLE?? posted by Bob on October 20, 2004 at 03:06:27: In many respects I don't think you can go wrong with the WD-45. My Dad farmed with a WD and WD-45 for years. They are strong tractors. While not as handy as many "utility" tractors they are built much more stoutly (in my opinion). I think biggest reason they don't hold the same price is the proprietary hitch Allis had, instead of what turned out to be the industry standard 3 point hitch. I would also disagree with the previous post, there is nothing wrong with the WD-45 Live PTO system. The hand clutch can be slipped virutally all day without much clutch wear (think it's an oil bath clutch). We used ours for pulling a PTO combine, sickle bar mower, and on occasion baling hay. The hand cluth is much more handy than a two stage foot clutch when you need to slip the clutch to regulate your gound speed. I'm nostalgic about the Allis brand so may be a bit biased, but if the tractor is in good shape it will still be mowing grass for you 20 years from now. Larry
